Indeed, what is Roque Nublo itself, the island’s great emblem, made of? Fire and time have the answer. This spectacular monolith, around eighty metres high and situated at an altitude of over eighteen hundred metres, is the petrified witness to the explosion of a stratovolcano several million years ago. The most patient sculptor in existence, time, sculpted the ashes and other petrified pyroclasts to form the figure of Roque Nublo that we see today.
